'Update Help' Laptop?
I have a second hand Compaq E500 Amarda I want to up and use online. It is set up to run Windows 98. Microsoft has every application, you may be thinking about it, Word, Excel, Publisher, Edexcel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, Business Planer Directmiail Manager, Access Snapshot Viewer, Binder and Photo Editor … Would I really need to keep all that? He is currently with Tesco internet, but I want to connect to my existing broadband provider which is the post office, but I'm not a disk. I also want to upgrade to Windows 2000. Is it possible to cheaply as I can do this by myself or would it be desirable to bring it to somewhere like PC World? I thought about doing a complete redo and a new looking but again, I do not have the disks that may have been with him at the time of purchase. I would be grateful for any help you can give me but please remember, I am a computer novice Complete!
To be honest – without the disc – you're a little stuck. You can download softeware but Microsoft has implemented various tips that will stop you of updates and other – they may work for some time but soon it will be blocked. As for Windows 98 and 2000 – support for these completely extinguished soon – XP would be your best bet – you can buy a genuine copy of XP from Ebay approximately 15 pounds. then do a fresh install and from there – you may need to consider getting more memory as well. Do not take it at PCWorld – they charge you a fortune for the software and install it –
