T1i Canon Rebel / 500D firmware for the video?

I am interested in getting a digital SLR with video, I already a Canon EOS camera and lens, as it should be Canon, I can not afford a 7D or 5D2, but I think I find the 500D a bit limited for video. Does anybody know if there is a firewire hack to allow you to control the scroll speed (I need 25p or 50i) and exposure to fly? Yep, firmware as indicated in the title, not firewire as mistakenly stated later in the post.

I suppose you are asking for a "firmware" Hack, not a "Firewire" hack. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I found available. I have a T1i, and I would also like to take manual control, because the T1i not do a very good selection of auto jobs. I shot a video with a loan 5d2, and I often driven Aperature 10-12 to increase the depth of field, because the autofocus is not availablewhile shooting videos. Another problem with T1i is the internal microphone. It is not too bad for picking "good" sounds (sounds that you want included in your video) but unfortunately it takes a lot of "bad" sound. (Sons of the inner workings of the machine, wind noise, etc. ..) And unfortunately, there is no external microphone port on the T1i. As much as I love the T1i for photos, I am disappointed with his performance as a video camera. Which is a shame, because the camera is capable of capturing real "video" staggering circumatances the Ideal. It does not adapt very well to "real life" shooting conditions.
