How can I convince my father that the Olympus Stylus Tough Kinda is my camera?

Here are the details. The device is about 340. I had a digital camcorder and digital camera. The camcorder has been touched on a desk, and wet in the camera water (Because the Ziploc bag failed) I tried to convince him that the stylus Tough was made for people much like to touch on their gear as me. He says it's a bad idea to get a camera that I can try to break again. Quite frankly, I do not want to break my camera. My camera is just does not compete with my level of activity.
