What digital SLR should I buy for photography magazine? I am not a professional photographer?

My partner and I have established a magazine of the local community, we have used a point and shoot camera digital, but I think we must now turn to a reflex. We have no professional training in photography, so have limited knowledge on the subject. I searched the Internet for different magazines, but everything seems to be drowning in information.
